Announcing our 13th Annual SVHFS Conference April 24 & 25, 2009 in

Charlotte, North Carolina!

Yup, we're going back to Charlotte April 24 & 25, 2009! What a great location for a conference. Lots of neat local places to see and a super atmosphere for the family. Details about the conference hotel and plans for the conference will be posted here as they are developed. Call for nominations for the annual SVHFS K4UHF Award

The K4UHF award was designed to honor and recognize sevice to the society and/or significant contributions to the Amateur Radio VHF, UHF and Microwave communities.

The members of SVHFS make nominations each year for the annual K4UHF award. Nominations are made to the SVHFS President or an appointed committee and the nominees are voted on by the SVHFS Board of Directors. A brief bio and background on your nominees qualifications are requested for the Board to consider and for the banquet presentation. The President or appointee tallies the votes and obtains an engraved plaque for presentation. The plaque will be presented at the annual conference banquet.

Any SVHFS member (anyone who has ever attended an SVHFS conference) may make a nomination. The nominees do not have to be SVHFS members, but it is generally assumed and requested that the recipient will be attending the conference and banquet to receive the award. The recipient is not informed of the award beforehand if possible.

Call for nominations for the first annual SVHFS RUNKLE Technical Excellence Award

A new award has been initiated by the Southeastern VHF Society in memory of Fred Runkle K4KAZ, one of the founders of SVHFS. Fred was our model for technical ability and our go-to guy for questions about RF and test equipment. He did the NF measurements at the conference for several years. Fred was an EE and worked for Collins Radio and Scientific Atlanta among others during his career. He also ran a small electronics laboratory, FSR Labs, from his home shack and shop. He became a Silent Key in late 2006.

The Runkle Award will recognize technical excellence and ability in the Amateur Radio VHF, UHF and Microwave Weak Signal communities. An engraved plaque will be presented each year at the annual SVHFS Banquet.

Call for Papers!

Hi everyone! This is a call for papers and presentations for the Southeastern VHF Society 2009 conference on April 24th and 25th in Charlotte NC. I have volunteered to be the program chairman again this year and will be accepting papers for the proceedings with a cutoff date of March 2nd, 2009. All papers will be submitted to me at svhfs2009@downeastmicrowave.com . All papers should be weak signal VHF/UHF or Microwave related. If you have a question about a topic please do not hesitate to ask. If you wish to make a presentation (with a published paper or not) please e-mail me at the above address. *NEW*2009 SVHFS Design Contest Rules Posted - This is a circuit design competition that is judged at the annual conference. Circuit designs are submitted for vhf and above in competition for prizes. The competition rules used are on our SVHFS Design Contest page.
